Hello from your newly appointed Region 7 co-representatives! 

Tresa Lohr and Alice Errickson are art teachers in the Central York School District in York County. With our newsletter we are hoping to stimulate your interest in the Region 7 activities that are in the works. Our focus is to encourage more participation as well as sharing ideas with fellow art educators in our area.

Family Bus Trip to the BMA

The elementay art teachers at Central York SD organized a Family Bus Trip to the Baltimore Museum of Art Sunday, May 18th. The bus trip was for students in grades 1-6  and had to be accompanied by one adult. This is the second time the trip has been offered. The BMA is free and Sundays are Family Fun Days. The families enjoyed a tour with a Docent and time to explore the museum on their own and a visit to the Sculpture Garden.

The Baltimore Museum of Art was voted "Best Museum for Families" by Maryland Family Magazine.

ADVOCACY

The journal, "The School Administrator", March 2008, features 5 articles about the arts is education. Please share this information and site with your colleagues who may be facing possible cuts.

Daniel Pink

Daniel Pink spoke at the Administrators Conference in Nashville recently. My principal only had positive things to say about his message and that art and music are an important part of our student's education now and for the future. Buy your administrator a copy of Pink's book, "A Whole New Mind". Also, School Arts magazine each month has been featuring Pink's "six essential right brain-directed aptitudes that creative thinkers should master". I've been sharing these with my principals, also.

At the PAEA '07 Conference the following Region 7 members were recognized for their outstanding contributions to art education and service to PAEA and NAEA.

OUTSTANDING ART EDUCATOR 

CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL RUPP - NAEA AND PAEA ART EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR 

Michael E. Rupp, Sr.

Michael is the Art and Photography Instructor of 14 years at Fairfield Area School District. He holds his B.S. in Art Education from Kutztown Univ. and Graduate Studies with Millersville Univ, Wilkes Univ, Penn State Univ., and Shippensburg Univ.

His achievements with PAEA are to be honored: Board member- Pennsylvania Art Education Association-PAEA Region 7 Representative and Co-Representative-2000-2003-Recipient 2002-2003 Outstanding PAEA Region Representative Award- Co-President Elect PAEA-2005-2006 and Co President PAEA-2006 to present.

In 1994, Rupp returned to teaching assuming a position at Fairfield HS and is their present time instructor, adivsor of the National Art Honor Society and active in the Scholastic Arts Program at both area and regional levels.

OUTSTANDING SPECIAL NEEDS ART EDUCATOR

Mary Louise Dallam

Mary Louise is the recently retired as Educational Consultant with Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistant Network (PaTTAN).

Dallam has her Doctorate in Art Education with Ohio State University and her BS in Art Education with Moore College of Art.

Along with being NAEA's Co-founder of the Secial Needs Issue Group, Dallam: Served as Secial Needs Issue Group's first Secretary in 2001-Special Populations Representative to PAEA 1987-2004-Co-Chair 2003 and 1990 PAEA State Conference.

Dallam has given her own time, her own resources and her skills in the name of art education immeasurably. Her unique expertise extends to help our most special and exceptional students. Dallam has developed programs for the PA Deaf Blind Program, created the Special Needs PDE web-section online, assisted Very Special Arts Pennsylvania and National Very Special Arts. From 1998-2002 Dallam initiated, developed and implemented the Children's Arts Institute at the National Autism Institute held at Pennsylvania State University.
