Though skies are grey and chill winds blow, Region 11 is warm with activity! In December we toured the ‘Renoir Landscapes’ exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA). This was the exhibit’s only U.S. destination. The paintings, about 60 in number, spanned from the pleasure gardens of Paris and Argenteuil, to the desert gardens of Algeria, to Renoir’s own garden, where he spent his last years. As the PMA’s website says, “these works of art reveal nature as a deep source of inspiration and demonstrate the artist’s fascination with the effects of outdoor light.” After the tour each PAEA member received a free teacher packet with lesson plans and reproductions. Act 48 hours were also offered.
The Frida Kahlo exhibit opens at the PMA on February 20th. We plan on a PAEA-sponsored tour, hopefully for a Saturday in April. Once a date has been selected, we will let you know so you can sign up. Hope you can join us!
