Teacher as Artist in Residence |
|
|
- This exciting joint project between the Pennsylvania Art Education Association
and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts supports classroom art teachers
in serving as guest artists (not guest teachers) at other schools.
You can participate in this exciting program this year
and be a part of PAEA's pioneering efforts in art education.
The
Teacher as Artist in Residence Program is intended to honor art
educators from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for their
artistic abilities and accomplishments. This program gives art
teachers a unique opportunity to serve as guest artists (not as guest
art teachers) in schools other than their own. Educational partnership
and collaboration underpin every dimension of this enterprise from the
initial joint application process, made between the teacher/artist and
the host art educator, to the program's delivery, through to the final
assessment of program impact.
Guidelines:
- Residency
application must be collaborative and submitted jointly on the ResidencyApplication
Form.
- Both
the Teacher/Artist and the Host Art Teacher should have a minimum of three
years teaching experience. It is
NOT necessary to be a PAEA member; but it is highly encouraged.
- Residencies
must take place between October and December 24 and may be from 3 to 10 days duration.
- The
Teacher/Artist is expected to commute to the residency site with no travel
reimbursement from PAEA, unless the
host school is willing to provide room, board and travel for the
Teacher/Artist.
- A
residency may take place in the same school district or a different one.
- Residency
artists are expected to be at the host site for the entire school day, Each
day, 50% should be spent working with students and the other 50% should be
spent with the artist working on his/her own creative projects so that
students can observe how an artist works.
Note: Artists are not
members of the teaching staff while
in residence at a school and may not be assigned as substitute
teachers. The Host Art Teacher must
be in the classroom at all times when the Teacher/Artist is working
directly with students.
- The
Superintendent and Principal from the sending school must sign the Certification
Form signifying their willingness to release the Teacher/Artist and
continue to provide him/her with the regular salary and benefits during
the residency period. The
Superintendent and Principal from the Host school must sign the
Certification Form signifying their willingness to accept the
Teacher/Artist at the host site and conform with the "note" in
#6 above.
