Educator of the Year
John Skrabalak is described as one who has always stood out above the rest for how he teaches students, teachers, and colleagues, the lessons and values of art and art education and passes on his knowledge and experience at Altoona Area Senior High School, on the PAEA Board, and as Cooperating teacher for Indiana University of PA and Penn State.
John has worked on Youth Art Month and in many other projects for PAEA including Region 6 Representative for eight years and as Secondary Division Director for five years. He was recognized in 2003 by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation as one of 30 Power of Art national winners. Also, John received the Outstanding Art Teacher in Sculpture Award (2001) from the International Sculpture Center.
Skrabalak was selected as Outstanding Secondary Art Teacher, Outstanding co-sponsor of the AAHS National Art Honor Society, Outstanding Regional Representative, Best Practicess nominee for Integration of the Art (PA Alliance for the Arts in Education). He was a nominee for the Governors Award for Excellence in the Arts and for many years has been a PAEA conference workshop presenter.
