Outstanding Middle Art Educator
from the January 2001 PAEA
Newsletter
Shari
teaches at South Mountain Middle School in the
Allentown School District, where she quickly became
a master teacher. She provides an outstanding
educational program that led her to participate
in the creation of an arts academy within the
middle school. During her tenure at the South
Mountain Middle School, Shari has participated
in several Schools to Work initiatives with Binney
and Smith, for their annual sales meetings. Additionally,
at the regional level, Shari has involved her
students in supporting programming by participating
in the Crayola DreamMakers® program.
Recently, Shari participated in an artist-in-residency
project with Lynn Berkowitz, former Director of
Education at the Allentown Art Museum. The project
resulted in a landform construction that now grace
the front of the school. She has participated
and presented at PAEA Conferences and created
art displays for the Allentown School District
Boardroom. Currently, she is working on her Masters
at Kutztown University.
In 2000, Shari presented a Land
SHAPES hands-on session at the Spring Educator’s
Reception and at the PAEA Member’s Juried Exhibition
at Open Space Gallery. She maintains an active
exhibition schedule that includes an international
scope.
She always puts her students needs
first. She raises the bar so that their excellence
can shine, and she builds skills and appreciation
for the arts in her consistently excellent assignments.
She encourages her students to participate in
community related activities so that they can
improve their technical proficiencies as they
contribute to building new relationships. She
awe all. The visual experiences she provides for
her students will stay with them for the rest
of their lives.
