Outstanding Secondary Art Educator
That
Joy Knepp was nominated for and awarded PAEA's Outstanding
Secondary Art Educator of the Year honors comes as
a surprise to no one who knows her. As a valued employee
of the Shanksville-Stonycreek School District for
more than 10 years Joy has not only managed to maintain
the quality of her program, but advocacy work has
brought her students' work into the public eye as
she exhibited their work throughout her local Walmart
store. As her district superintendent notes, “If
there is a way to foster interest and enthusiasm for
art among all ages, Joy will find it.”
Joy Knepp is described by her colleagues as innovative,
motivated and dedicated. These are qualities that
have served her well as she initiated new programs
and brought local artists in as resources for her
students. In addition to her contributions to their
artistic education, Joy has given of her time and
energies to many aspects of her students’ well
being. She is a member of the school SAP team, a prom
advisor, and the SADD advisor to name but a few. Joy
Knepp is not only an outstanding art educator, but
obviously a generous and caring person.
Members of Laurel Arts, where she currently serves
on the board of directors, also sing Joy’s praises.
She carries the distinction of being someone who not
only has creative and innovative ideas, but also of
being someone who will find a way to implement those
ideas and bring them to a successful conclusion.
PAEA has benefited from her many talents as she
serves as a human resource for region 6. Her support
of PAEA activities extends to the annual conference,
at which she is in regular attendance.
It is a pleasure for PAEA to recognize Joy Knepp's
contributions to the world of art education by awarding
her the honor of Outstanding Secondary Art Educator.
