Susan
Kemenyffy is an independent artist and philanthropist
from Northwestern Pennsylvania whose enthusiasm for
art education reaches across the State and beyond.
She has been involved in numerous school and community
projects and was appointed Chair of the Pennsylvania
Council on the Arts in 1997. Kemenyffy also works
with the Erie Area Fund for the Arts in its activities
in support of arts in education.
Kemenyffy holds degrees from Syracuse University,
BFA, University of Iowa, MA, University of Iowa, MFA
with honors. She has received numerous awards including
two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grants,
and a nomination to the Pennsylvania Honor Roll of
Women.
As a practicing ceramic artist, her works have been
exhibited around the world. Kemenyffy pieces can be
found in many important collections including the
Smithsonian Institution, The Carnegie Museum and many
other collections of note. Kemenyffy is represented
in numerous international publications, and she is
often presenting workshops, giving lectures and creating
commissioned works. Of particular interest to Pennsylvanians
are the Raku “ribbon” in the atrium of
Erie’s new East High School, the garden tours
of Raku Place which financially benefit the Arts in
Education programs and The Harding Model School Project,
a Best Practices in Pennsylvania Arts in Education
Site, where “celebrity artist” Kemenyffy
worked with the school’s art educators and students.
Kemenyffy and her husband, Steven, reside in McKean,
Pennsylvania. They have one grown child, Maya.
