display_2.jpgIf you are a member in good standing of PAEA and you are willing to consider a leadership role in the field of art education in Pennsylvania, then consider volunteer service to PAEA. Board of Directors are always looking for new, hard working creative people to take on leadership positons in various capacities within the governance of the association Board. Take some time to review the various jobs that avail an interested future leader. The work is fulfilling and allows you professional growth opportunities. Review the contents of the PAEA Job Description Handbook. If you have questions about any position listed in the handbook, contact any member of the PAEA Executive Committee for more detailed information. Consider service to PAEA and join a winning team of dedicated, creative leaders in art education within the Commonwealth who work hard to promote the mission of their professional organization so that children will have a more construction, creative and cultured future as we move into the 21st Century.
Core List
All PAEA Board Members shall participate in the following core list of activities in their job description
  • Obtain a copy of, read and understand the PAEA Constitution
  • Obtain and understand PAEA Mission Statement
  • Obtain and understand PAEA Strategic Plan
  • Attend all quarterly scheduled board meetings
  • Talk to officer who previously held your Board position
  • Advocate for PAEA
  • Take on a leadership role in your position on the Board
  • Work collaboratively and judiciously with other Board members
  • Brand all official correspondence and literature with official PAEA logo
  • Communicate with PAEA Executive Committee
  • Submit intent to serve on PAEA Board annually and on time to President and Executive Committee
  • Submit annual proposed budget to PAEA Treasurer on time by end of November annually (forecast out for one year) 
  • Submit any bills with accompanying official PAEA Treasurer voucher to Treasurer for payment
  • Submit a written report of official activities to PAEA Secretary at quarterly Board meetings
  • Report knowledge of any YAM activities to YAM officers
  • Submit publication articles with any photos to PAEA Publication Chair and meet quarterly scheduled copy submission deadlines
  • Assist in training and mentoring of new officers filling a vacancy of previously held positions
  • Submit three discrete objectives to President and Executive
  • committee by end of November annually

  • President
    • Attend to core list
    • Serve a two year term of office
    • Plan and arrange 4 Executive Committee meetings annually
    • Plan and arrange 4 Board meetings annually
    • Conduct and preside over all EC and Board meetings
    • Prepare official two year calendar with EC
    • Prepare meeting agendas and disseminate to Board members approximately one week prior to meeting dates
    • Facilitate two Leadership Retreat Teams designed to conduct PAEA business
    • Mentor President-elect
    • Oversee two conferences
    • Mentor two Conference Chairs and team
    • Actively support PAEA members in official association business
    • Attend, participate, and represent PAEA at Delegates Assembly during term of office at annual NAEA Conferences
    • Attend, participate, and represent PAEA in Team East meetings during term of office
    • Submit written State of the Association Address at General Meetings at annual conference during term of office
    • Schedule two General Meetings for annual conference with conference team
    • Write quarterly President’s Message for publication in association newsletter
    • Prepare written State of the Association Report to be published in Winter issue of association newsletter
    • Work with EC to fill Board vacancies
    • Sign official NAEA intent to serve documents at Delegate Assembly
  • Past President
    • Attend to core list
    • Serve a two year term of office
    • Oversee bi-annual PAEA official election process during final year of term of office
    • Oversee annual Intent to Serve process for association at President’s direction
    • Attend and represent PAEA at PAAE meetings as appointed by President
    • Act as liaison with PDE and report back to EC and Board
    • Oversee fiscal health of association working directly with EC and Treasurer
    • Mentor President
    • Talk to previous officer who held post
    • Make sure transfer of voting positing for NAEA delegate assembly is transferred to PAEA President-elect when term of office concludes (sign official documents at Delegates assembly for incoming PAEA President-elect)
  • President-Elect
    • Attend to core list
    • Serve a two year term of office
    • Work with Regional Reps to ensure outreach to PAEA constituents in regions
    • Oversee selection process, put forth and present two Outstanding RR Awards at annual conference award banquet
    • Schedule RR meeting time for Board meetings with President
    • Attend, participate, and represent PAEA as voting member of Delegates Assembly at NAEA annual conference
    • Sign and submit official intent to serve with NAEA VP at annual Delegates assembly (note any changes to NAEA)
    • Mentor RRs
    • Begin 2-3 year-out conference planning process by appointing conference chairs with EC and President guidance
    • Serve as grant development officer for association
  • Secretary
    • Attend to core list
    • Serve a two year term of office
    • Record and maintain all official Board minutes and trancripts, mailing and documents from Board meetings and deliver to Historian
    • Prepare printed draft of minutes for Board meetings
  • Treasurer
    • Attend to core list
    • Serve a two year term of office
    • Maintain all association financial records
    • Explore investment opportunities and report findings to EC and Board
    • Pay all official PAEA bills associated with PAEA business
    • Monitor cash flow for Board budgets
    • Arrange for annual audit of financial records with outside?CPA or agency and report findings to EC and Board
    • Work with President on annual association proposed budget process to be concluded by end of December annually
    • Present complete proposed budget to EC and Board at Winter quarterly meetings for endorsement and ratification by Board
    • Arrange for, and oversee association phone contracts and calling card processes
    • Maintain all association financial records and files
    • Investigate, arrange for and manage association liability insurance coverage as necessary for group and group art exhibitions

 

  • Regional Representatives
    • Attend to core list
    • Serve a four year term of office
    • Represent PAEA constituents in respective Regions
    • Plan one or more activities for Region members/may collaborate with surrounding Regions on activities
    • Align work in Region with association Strategic Plan. Goals, objectives, and Mission
    • Prepare and submit one newsletter article to PAEA Newsletter Editor quarterly and meet copy due date—write text in past tense to align with print dates
    • Forecast, plan, and prepare annual proposed budget to reflect Region initiatives
    • Encourage Region constituents to participate in PAEA/PDE annual Student Art Show in Harrisburg
    • Develop YAM activity for March annually
    • Liaison between PAEA and members in Region
    • Report YAM activities in Region to YAM Chair's, Advocacy and PR Representatives to the Board
    • Be fiscally accountable to approved Regional budget
    • Take a leadership role as RR at state conference under direction of President-elect
    • Brand all official Regional print literature disseminated in Region with PAEA logo and Brand
    • Assist Conference Chair's with conference work if event is held in your Region

 

  • Division Directors
    • Elementary Division
      • Attend to core list
      • Serve a four year term of office
      • Survey needs of Division and report findings to EC and Board
      • Initiate Elementary Art Clubs across Commonwealth aligned with NAEA Guidelines
      • Initiate Elementary activities aligned with PAEA and NAEA agenda and Strategic Plan
      • Maintain contact with NAEA Elementary Division Director
      • Develop/implement art career awareness action plan and bring to EC and Board
      • Send correspondence (letter) to all Elementary art teachers in the Commonwealth identifying you as leader of the division
    • Middle Division
      • Attend to core list
      • Serve a four year term of office
      • Survey needs of Middle Level Division and report findings to EC and Board
      • Initiate Middle Level activity aligned with NAEA and PAEA Strategic Plan and Agenda
      • Maintain contact with NAEA Middle Level Director
      • Send correspondence (letter) to all Middle Level art teachers in the state
    • Secondary Division
      • Attend to core list
      • Serve a four year term of office
      • Nominate Outstanding Secondary Educator nominee for annual award
      • Promote membership into the National Honor Societies
      • Correspond with and maintain contact with NAEA Secondary Division Director
      • Publish Bi-annual newsletter to all PAEA Secondary Art Teachers
      • Maintain a Directory of all secondary PAEA Art teachers
      • Present and advocate division members to present at the annual conferences
      • Survey needs of secondary division and report finding to Executive Committee
    • Higher Education Division
      • Attend to core list
      • Serve a four year term of office
      • Nominate Outstanding HE nominee for annual award
    • Museum Education Division
      • Attend to core list
      • Serve a four-year term of office
      • Seek innovative ways to promote museum/school collaborations and utilize appropriate assessment tools to document the effectiveness of program
      • Align Division work with PAEA and NAEA Strategic Plans and Agendas
      • Present and advocate Division members to present at annual conferences
      • Maintain a Directory of current educators in level and provide information to association Membership Chair
      • Plan and Chair a Division meeting at annual conferences
      • Consistently market Division to State Museums Ed. Depts.
      • Gather and discuss appropriate information to State Newsletter Editor
      • Nominate Outstanding ME nominee for annual award
    • Supervision and Administration Division
      • Attend to core list
      • Serve a four year term of office
      • Align work with constituents in Division with NAEA and PAEA Strategic Plan and Agenda
      • Represent field and issues to EC and Board
      • Work to align the disparate viewpoint of teachers and administrators toward art education
      • Dispel stereotype held by art teachers and administrators toward each other.
    • Retired Division
      • Attend to core list
      • Serve a four year term of office
      • Align work with Retired art teachers in Commonwealth with NAEA/PAEA Strategic plan and Agenda
      • Contact Retired art educators in the Commonwealth
      • Create reward program to recognize retired art teachers w/certificate at conference
      • Develop resources for successful teaching methodologies
      • Mentor new teachers

 

  • Standing and Sub Committee Chairs
    • Advocacy / Public Relations Chair
      • Attend to core list
      • Position appointed by President with endorsement by EC and ratified by Board
      • Chair and create an Advocacy Committee
      • Design a PAEA Advocacy project annually that is aligned with NAEA/PAEA Strategic Plan, and Agenda
      • Research and develop usable and practical materials for art teachers
      • Develop plan of action aligned with NAEA/PAEA Strategic Plan, Agenda and State Standards
      • Develop and schedule work session “How to visit your local legislator” workshop
      • Facilitate the creation of Advocacy reusable cards
      • Work with EC and Board to prepare advocacy materials
      • Work with Committee to plan PAEA participation in annual Arts Day in Harrisburg
      • Collect portfolio of Advocacy materials for use by organization
      • Develop Advocacy Packet for Board members
      • Create and prepare emergency Advocacy Action Plan
      • Report success stories to Publication Chair for dissemination to constituents
      • Develop an Advocacy Plan with Public Service Announcement

      • Correspond with constituents whose membership has lapsed
      • Maintain data on membership and report numbers to EC and Board at quarterly meetings
      • Update members list from NAEA
      • Provide RR with members info (new, renewal, lapse) from NAEA at quarterly Board meetings
      • Chair Ad Hoc committee to research membership policies, report finding to EC and Board as it relates to NAEA/PAEA Membership Agreement
    • Professional Concerns Chair
      • Attend to core list
      • Appointed position by President with endorsement by EC and ratification by vote of Board
      • Act as liaison for all PAEA members bringing concerns to the attention of association Board
      • Research current trends in field and report back to EC and Board
      • Align work with NAEA/PAEA Strategic Plan and Agenda
      • Work with honor societies and student Programs such as PA Art Club
    • Publications Chair (Newsletter, Journal, Website)
      • Attend to core list

  • Webmaster
    • Alter / update content in a timely manner when directed by the web editor
    • Advise the web editor of technical matters affecting style, content and navigation
    • Advise the web editor concerning applicability of emerging technologies
    • Regularly review web content and advise editor concerning out-of-date material
    • Convert documents to html and pdf as required by the editor
    • Format the entire web in a logical format that allows maintenance
    • Qualifications
      • Required
        • An ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
        • Excellent written and oral communication skills
        • Able work in native HTML
        • Able to write basic JavaScript
        • Able to create Adobe pdf documents - including but not limited to linking documents, creating of forms, conversion of documents to pdf, and minimizing of file size.
        • Able to receive documents in many file formats including but not limited to MS Office.
        • Able to work with any applicable web editing system - currently Dreamweaver
        • Able to work in the operating environment of the PAEA web.
        • Able to stay current with emerging web technologies
      • The following are a “plus.”
        • Experience with e-commerce web setup
        • Familiarity with XML
        • Experience with database driven web content
        • Familiarity with art education
    • Evaluation
      • Updates done in a timely manner - depending upon magnitude of updates
        • Time-critical updates done within 2 business days
        • Other updates within four business days
        • Major revisions completed within the agreed-on time
      • Creation of HTML pages with a theoretical load time of 30 - 35 seconds at 28.8
      • Timeliness of reporting out-of-date material to the editor
      • Currency of knowledge concerning web technologies.
