Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs.
Youth Art Month provides a forum for acknowledging skills that are fostered through experience in the visual arts that are not possilbe in other subjects offered in the curriculum.

Each state will hold a
student flag design program addressing a selected theme.
Every art teacher is encouraged to involve your students, from
Kindergarten through Grade 12 in designing a YAM flag. You may approach it with
your students any creative way you like.
Directions for Participation: Flag designs are to be 6" by 10" in a horizontal format.Center the design on a larger sheet (9"
by 12") to allow for matting. See the template provided.
Please affix
on the back of the flag design the following information:
Student's
name, age and grade
Student's
home address and phone number
Teacher's
name and PAEA/NAEA #
School
name and address and phone number
Teacher's
home phone #
This information is all necessary for further communications.
The design should be in color. It may be
created in any medium.Keep in
mind how it would look if reproduced as a 3
x 5 foot flag.
The design should reflect our state theme
and display the YAM logo somewhere in the design.(The logo is on the front of this brochure as well as on the
PAEA website).
Postmark on or before January 9, 2010:Due date for each teacher to send ONE entry to the
state selection. Only one design will be accepted from each participating
teacher. Please mail in a sturdy mailer with rigid cardboard to prevent
creasing.

An independent panel of judges will then select the design to be
used for our Pennsylvania YAM flag.
