OUTSTANDING HIGHER ED. ART EDUCATOR
Sister Cor Immaculatum Heffernan, IHM is a part-time Professor of Art (retired from full-time as of 2007) at Marywood University. Sister Cor has a B.A. in English/Art and M.S. in Counselor Education with Marywood University. She also has explored her artistic pursuits with a M.A. in Sculpture from the University of Notre Dame and a M.F.A in Illustration with Syracuse.
Sister Cor’s educational foundation carries into the NAEA and the PAEA
- 1997 PAEA planning committee for the PAEA Scranton Conference, Theme: “Strategies: Distilling the Roles of Visual Arts as Advocates, Leaders & Partners
- 1982 NAEA National Convention, NY Presenter: “A Challenge to the College Educator”
Within the past thirty years, Sister Cor has been consultant to at least twenty-five institutions of higher education nation-wide, reviewing their art programs and recommending ways to strengthen them. In addition, she has been an on-site evaluator and member of the Commission on Accreditation for the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the "only accrediting agency covering the whole field of art and design recognized by the U.S. Department of Education".
Sister Cor is an artist. She has published her collected works “Spirit of Light” in 2004. She has participated in juries, exhibits and multiple commissions. But her greatest works of art are her students.
Sister Cor’s range does not just stop with her students; the true gift comes through her students. Because she is able to impact, touch and leave a lasting impression on future art educators, her love of art resounds profoundly through her students…onto their students.
