2023 NAEA Award recipients

PAEA CONGRATULATES PENNSYLVANIA ART EDUCATORS FOR THIER NATIONAL RECOGNITION 

ADAM RIZZO

EASTERN REGION MUSEUM ART EDUCATOR AWARD 

Adam Rizzo is the Coordinator of College and Pre-Professional Programs and Museum Educator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As a member of the School & Teacher team at the PMA for the past eight years, he teaches K-12 students in the galleries, facilitates professional development for classroom teachers, and develops classroom resources. He also coordinates and facilitates the museum’s medical humanities programs at UPenn’s Perelman School of Medicine. Adam is currently serving his second term as President of AFSCME Local 397, which represents cultural workers at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Penn Museum, and the Please Touch Museum.

Dr. Lauren Stetz Elliot Eisner Doctoral Research Award

Dr. Lauren Stetz received her Ph.D. in art education with a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) in May 2022. She holds a master’s in art history from George Mason University. An art educator and scholar, Stetz has worked with students from Pre-K to the university level in public and private schools in Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Her global research utilizes data visualization to develop culturally responsive pedagogy and harnesses the power of art activism for healing, community building, and societal change. Stetz’s interdisciplinary research has been published in numerous scholarly journals, including Visual Culture & Gender, Ground Works, Journal of Humanities in Rehabilitation, Journal of Radiology Nursing, and a commentary in Studies in Art Education. Stetz currently serves as the chair of the Data Visualization Group in the National Art Education Association and is an Adjunct Associate Professor and Curriculum Consultant of Art & Design at the University of the Arts.

Kat Lee 

ISAE Art Educator 

of the Year

Kat Lee (she/they) is an art educator and mixed media artist specializing in ceramics. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA where she currently resides. She has most recently exhibited at the Philadelphia International Airport and continues to make work alongside her students in the classroom where she promotes artist identity development in her students. She also practices a choice-based curriculum within her High School art classes where she promotes teacher and learner collaborative work. She has been working in independent schools for 9 years of her teaching experience. Alongside teaching High School visual arts classes, her passion and focus include DEI work around her school campus.

She holds her Masters in Art Education from Moore College of Art and Design and an Undergraduate degree in ceramics and teaching certification from Tyler School of Art.
