April's PAEA Student Artist of the Month is
Margaret Moninghoff!
Margaret attends Moravian University and was nominated by PAEA member MaryJo Rosania Harvie
What MaryJo has to say about Margaret:
Margaret came into the Art Education program filled with creativity and confidence. She has quickly become an important member of the community at Moravian. I am so excited to see her future lessons and classrooms!
Who has been your biggest influence and why?
"I think my biggest influence isn't necessarily a person, it's the world around me, colors, textures, and sounds I see and hear in my everyday life. I feel my most recent work is very influenced by my late Nanny and her life, embodying things that she taught me or things that she loved, such as wild animals, bright colors, and textiles."
Why is art class/art education important?
"Art is so important, especially for younger students; it helps promote creativity and gives students an outlet for emotions that they may not be able to convey through words. Art also brings people together and creates community in and out of the classroom."
What advice would you give to other artists?
"Try something new. Experimenting within your own practice is so important; taking risks might open the door to a new body of work that you never thought you could make. Also, make sure you are putting your art out there, going to shows, and meeting other local artists. Being a part of your local art community is very important and a great way to get inspiration and learn how to network."
